Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade 구경하러 갔다.


이건 올해 새로 바뀐 퍼레이드 루트. 시간은 오전 9시부터 12시까지.
일찍 가야 한다는 수잔의 말을 귓등으로 흘리고 11시쯤 도착했더니 사방이 폴리스라인이고. 제아무리 300만 인파라고 말들 해도 그동안 체감한 미국인의 길거리 개인공간이 좌우 2m는 되니까 사람 부딪치는 것쯤 아무것도 아닌 자랑스러운 한국인인 나는 헤쳐나갈 자신이 있었지. 오산이었음.


오산이었다기보다 어메리칸 퍼스널 존 치곤 좁긴 좁았다만 나야 못 파고 들건 없겠는데 딸들이 어머니 참으시라고 기겁들을 해서.


42가 브로드웨이에서 오도 가도 못하고 멀찌감치서 풍선 몇 개 봤다. 남편은 집에서 텔레비전으로 구경꾼 중에 우리가 보일까나 유심히 지켜봤다는데.


둘째가 이 사진 올리면 절대 안된다고 했지만. 화낼 게 분명하지만.
석 달 만에 10파운드가 얼굴에 다 붙은 거 같지만. 음...


퍼레이드는 물 건너 갔지만 평소엔 차로 꽉 찼던 브로드웨이도 유유히 걷고 100만 불 받았다.


나는 별일 없이 산다.
화장이나 해볼까 싶다가도 관리가 필요하다느니 늙어서 구차해 보인다느니, 초라까진 괜찮은데 말이지 구차래 구차. 이말 저말 듣고 있자니 내 드러워서 하나 바르던 로션마저 끊었다. 내가 또 누가 하라고, 해야 한다고 하면 하던 짓도 다 때려치우는 사람이잖냐. 성질대로 하고 살 수 있는 게 많지 않아서 탈이지.




나 안경 낀 거 보는 거 오랜만이지? 구차한데다 안경까지 잡수시고...
나한테 늙어서 안 꾸미면 구차해 보인다하신 분 귀 좀 간지러웠을겨.


길에서 얻은 100만 불로 빵 사먹었다.


하 손톱을 물어뜯어서 색깔을 칠해놨더니 손톱이 제법 길었다. 셋 중에 젤 길어.


어찌나 예쁜지. ^^;

이런 대목이 있더라.

파격은 더 있다. 책을 훔치는 행위이다. 벤야민이 은근슬쩍 밝히고 있듯이, 꼭 갖고 싶은 책을 갖지 못해서 죽을 지경이라면 훔치는 수밖에 뾰족한 방도가 없다. 진정 그 책의 가치를 아는 이라면 도둑질을 하더라도 그에 대해 도덕의 판단을 내릴 수가 없다.

몇 해 전에 The Morgan Library & Museum에서 산 bookplate.


어마어마한 가격이라 열 두 번쯤 들었다놨다 망설이다가 Morgan Library & Museum에서 미술관 건물을 빼고 유일하게 마음에 들었던 것이라 큰맘 먹고 샀었다. 20장에 8.95$.



17장 남았는데 책을 훔칠 주제도 안될뿐더러 그럴 수 있는 위인도 못되지 아마. 카드대용으로 썼다. Bookplate의 역사에서 도둑맞은 할아버지의 희귀 장서를 Bookplate로 찾았다는 글을 보고 웃었다.


Bookplate Art에서 우선 눈에 띄는 분은 Edwin Davis French (1851 - 1906).
North Attleboro, Massachusetts 출신 에스페란토 어에 관심이 많았던 bookplate 조각사.

Date: 1894
Description: States, 'The Grolier Club. Founded 1884 New York;' features five central images depicting steps in the bookmaking process, including papermaking, hand-press printing, and binding; the ornamental border includes the crest of the Grolier Club, and a coin bearing the portrait and name of Nathaniel Hawthorne. 우선 책을 좋아하고 작은 손 작품을 즐기는데 Bookplate 작업은 둘 다를 만족시킨다는 Mexico City 출신 여성 공예가.
